WHAT WHEN HOW ?
WHEN TO WEAR A COMPRESSION GARMENT?
Most surgeons advise patients to wear medical compression garments for several weeks after surgery. Some patients may need to wear these garments day and night, while others may need to wear them for a few hours during the day.
HOW LONG SHOULD I WEAR THE COMPRESSION GARMENT?
The surgeon will determine the exact length of time it is necessary to wear a compression garment following the procedure.
It is recommended to wear a compression garment for 4 to 6 weeks after liposuction to minimize post-operative swelling and prevent rippling.
Examples
• After an abdominoplasty, which is an extensive operation, it is often recommended by surgeons to wear an abdominal belt for up to 6 weeks after the operation in order to control swelling and to help the scar tissue to distribute properly.
• After a breast augmentation, a postoperative bra is most often recommended for 2 to 3 weeks. This will support the breast tissue and keep the implants in the right position during the adaptation and healing phase of the tissues.
